What’s Included: Your Arc Flash Study
BICE Safety Consultants specialize in arc flash studies. Arc Flash is an arc of energy that releases dangerous levels of heat energy that can result in severe burns and even death. They can result from incidents such as accidental contact with energized electrical systems, buildup of conductive dust or corrosion, and electrical insulation failure or insulation system can no longer withstand the applied voltage.
An arc flash study is an analysis performed to determine any risk of personal injury due to exposure to incident energy (IE) released during an arc-flash event, provide our recommendations for compliant and appropriate arc-flash hazard protection, and inform the personnel about the existing arc electrical safety.
Our team performs the analysis and then uses the results of the arc flash study to guide clients on personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, flame-retardant shirts, and pants, eye protection, etc in order to select adequate personnel protection.
We follow NFPA-70E and IEEE 1584 guidelines to guarantee we meet the highest industry standards.
BICE Engineering and Consulting did an excellent job in performing an arc flash hazard study for our grain terminal! They were very professional, timely, and clearly communicated the expectations/deliverables for the project to us well in advance. I would highly recommend BICE for providing this service!

What Makes Us Different From Other Safety Consultants?
BICE Engineering and Consulting is committed to providing high-quality, dedicated, and responsive professional engineering services to industrial, commercial, and utility clients in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area.
We are different from competitors in size and structure which allows us to be more responsive to change. It also allows us to provide personalized and superior services to our clients so that we can give them exactly what they ask for!
Our assessment will consist of an arc flash study with IE calculation based upon available fault current (AFC), arc duration, and working distance. Other assessments by competitors can instead use NESC Tables 410-1 and 410-2 in lieu of arc flash study. We have concerns with using tables in that actual AFC can differ from tables, actual clearing time can differ from tables, and we need to account for arc blast factor. We take a more thorough approach for safety reasons.
BICE is a registered P.E. Firm in the state of Texas #F-10403 while some consultants that offer this service are not.
BICE Engineering and Consulting has performed numerous Arc Flash Hazzard Analysis studies in the last two years in periods when our in-house engineering team was not able to dedicate the time necessary to perform the studies. Over the many studies completed, Mr. May responded promptly and in a professional manner to ensure we were satisfied with his service. Benny takes pride in the accuracy of his deliverables and meets the stated due date. I would recommend using BICE professional services for short circuit, device coordination, load flow and Arc Flash studies.
